what docs your current role entail?
My current role emails project and team management along
with working on new product development lor my company.
However, I have not lost touch wiih my core competency of
research and work as an analyst whenever required.
What are the ideal attributes for becoming a team lead/manager?
The ideal attributes ol a team lead are being a people's
person yet making sure that the interests of all parties
are in place. It definitely is dillicult. yet iliafs the
fun when you are the manager. Also never compromise on your
principles.
Please talk about your experiences of getting here...
The path has not been easy as I have learned, unlearned
and re-learned throughout. I still remember when I was given
a proj¬ect on the very first day of my job in one of my
former companies. I had no clue as to what to do, apart
from the process map belore my eyes; I worked the whole
day and night since I had to present the findings the next
morning. My boss instead of appreciating it, blasted me,
which drove me to do a better job. I know I still did nol
do il correctly the second lime, but he jusl said one Ihing
'Nothing gets bigger; everything looks small when we reach
where we want to'. Guess that has driven me.
Some advice to people with similar background lo yours on
how to climb the sue i ess ladder.
Follow what you want to do and be what you are instead of
following people Make your own niche path. It is diflicult
at first but you will BOO realise it is not that bad and
also have no regrets in the future
After you reach a certain stage in your career, is it difficult
for you to cope with work-life balance?
The work-lilc balance does become difftc till as expectations
rise. However, 'work harder and party harder' is my belief
and it's al¬ways one thing at I lime.
Did you have any problems from external sources since this
industry has some negativity attached to it. even if unwarranted?
Doing something out of the box always invites negativity,
but 'being what you want lo be' lakes you through the tips
and downs. |
